Career Technical Education (CTE) is a program of study that involves a multi-year sequence of courses that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

 

Many people believe career/tech students frequently become increasingly inspired about school because they can see the relevance of their academic studies to the real world.

 

Career Technical Education focuses primarily on technical skills which include rigorous academic content. Preparing students for technical careers or college-level classes with both technical and academic skills will help them to adapt as industry needs and their field changes.

 

Students prepared with technical and academic skills, gives them more options after they graduate. They are then better prepared to take advantage of possibilities after high school that might include moving directly into the workforce, gaining more advanced skills at a technical school or community college and then advance into a university, or finding a job in their trade that would help put them through college.

 

Advocates of integrating academic and technical skills, including the U.S. Department of Education, say that this better prepares students to adapt to changes in industry or to more easily switch careers.
